Resident Registration Opens February 2 for City of Gaithersburg Summer Camps

FROM CITY PRESS RELEASE: "Resident registration opens soon for Gaithersburg’s popular summer camp programs.  All-day camps for elementary and middle school ages, and half-day Youth Activity Programs for elementary ages will be conducted in four separate sessions (note that Innov8, a video camp for middle schoolers, has only two extended sessions).  Session I runs from June 20 - July 1, Session II from July 5 - 15, Session III from July 18 - 29, and Session IV from August 1 - 5.  This year the all-day camps will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended care available from 4 to 6 p.m. for an additional fee.

From Camp Activ8 that promotes physical activity and healthy habits to the City’s newest adventure camp, Xceler8, Gaithersburg offers summer programs to suit every interest.  In addition to the summer camps, the City also offers specialized arts camps, sports and dance clinics, and four sessions of the School of Skate.  Summer camps and clinics are held at a variety of convenient locations throughout the City, including centers and schools in the Kentlands/Lakelands area as well as facilities close to the heart of the Olde Towne City center.

Registration for City of Gaithersburg residents begins February 2.  Nonresidents may register beginning March 2.  For complete details pick up a “Summer in the City” camp guide at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 S. Frederick Avenue next to Gaithersburg High School, or go online to www.gaithersburgmd.gov/camps.  Online registration is available using RecXpress.

Each year the City of Gaithersburg receives hundreds of applications from families in need who want their children to enjoy the energizing, educational and challenging experiences offered by the City’s summer camp programs.  Donations to the Dolores Swoyer Camp Scholarship Fund, which help the City provide full and partial assistance to qualified families, are accepted throughout the year.  If you would like to help send a kid to camp, please contact the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture at 301-258-6350 or email Tim “Smitty” Smith at tsmith@gaithersburgmd.gov.
