The 19th annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5K was held Saturday, Sept. 1 in the two Gaithersburg communities. The race is a USATF certified course, offering live entertainment and 2 water stops to participants as they wind through the award-winning new urbanist communities of the Kentlands and Lakelands, according to the race website.
The men's race was won by 30-year-old Washington, DC resident Seife Geletu. North Potomac's Christopher Sloane, 29, and Bethesda's Jake Klim, 32, followed in second and third.
The women's race was won by 24-year-old Vienna, VA resident Anna Holt-Gosselin. Holt-Gosselin was followed by Cosmus, MD's Meghan Lockett, 15, and Washington DC's Hilary May, 23.
In another notable finish, Gaithersburg council member Jud Ashman defeated council member Michael A. Sesma in the fifth council challenge.
Ashman jokingly congratulated himself at Tuesday evening's Mayor and Council meeting, one in which Sesma was absent due to a trip to the Democratic National Convention.
"If he were here, I have to imagine Mike would say something about my being one of the best athletes in council history," Ashman said.
