National Search to be Conducted for Gaithersburg City Manager

The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council have authorized a national search for the selection of a new city manager. , who had served since September of 2008. Deputy City Manager Tony Tomasello has been appointed to serve as the acting city manager in the interim.

“Gaithersburg is an award-winning community with a reputation for excellence, and our residents enjoy an unparalleled quality of life,” Mayor Sidney Katz said in a statement. “Maintaining that reputation is important, and we look forward to selecting the best candidate from a large pool of qualified candidates who share our vision for this community.”

“Photographs” On Display at Activity Center

The City of Gaithersburg presents "Photographs," featuring the works of photographic artists John Coker and Thomas Germer. The exhibit runs from July 13 through September 9, 2012, at the . Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to a free Artists’ Reception on Tuesday, July 17 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Go On a Date with Personals at Arts Barn

The presents Personals, a musical comedy from the creators of the hit TV show Friends. This witty production features book and lyrics by David Crane, Seth Friedman and Marta Kauffman and music by William Dreskin, Joel Philip Friedman, Seth Friedman, Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz, and Michael Skloff. The show runs July 27 through August 4, with performances on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Admission is $20, $18 for City residents.

The Smithereens Headline 31st Annual Celebrate Gaithersburg Festival

Blue collar rock ‘n roll legends "The Smithereens" are headlining Celebrate Gaithersburg in Olde Towne, the city’s rousing street festival taking place on Sunday, September 16. The Smithereens take center stage from 2 to 4 p.m., highlighting a day of music, food, arts, crafts and amusements in and around the intersection of Diamond and Summit Avenues. The festival is open from noon to 5 p.m.
