We Serve

Giving to others and working with the people in your community towards a common goal of giving to those in need is one way to balance family and business life.

Giving to others and working with the people in your community towards a common goal of giving to those in need is one way to balance family and business life.  My father, Ed Rowse, showed me an avenue to give back to the community through his membership in the local Lions Club of which he was a life-time member.

One of the good ”isms” in this world is Lionism.  More than 1.3 million Lions, in 206 countries, representing 44,500 clubs around the world have a motto by which they live—We Serve.  What does “We Serve” mean?  As a member, I can tell you that it spans the spectrum of giving.  Lions serve by helping others – from a family in need after a catastrophic injury to a son, to providing free hearing and eye exams, to putting eyeglasses on kids whose parents can’t afford them, to raising money for people displaced by fire, Lions work to make a positive impact on our community in any way we can.

My family was one helped by the Derwood Montgomery Central Lions Club.  My father had been a member of the club for many years when my older brother, Roger had a catastrophic injury. The club members campaigned tirelessly and raised needed funds to purchase Roger a van with lift so he could fulfill his dream of going to college.  He used that van for many years and not only graduated from college but also obtained his masters degree and became a CPA.  The Lions provided help when it was most needed.
