Gaithersburg Week in Preview: Chamber Honors Tomasello, Jingle Jubilee, More

Five things to have on your radar in Gaithersburg this week.

Gaithersburg City Council Meets Tonight
The City Council is scheduled to meet 7:30 p.m. Monday night at City Hall. The Council is expected to name a vice president and will honor first-year Gaithersburg High School boys varsity soccer coach Matt Bowling. The team the team to finish its season with 8 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie—compared with last season’s record of 5 wins and 8 losses. The council is expected to meet in closed session following the regular meeting to discuss: “consideration of support for public financing and/or State tax credits for the Y site, and to consider a code enforcement matter.” The agenda is posted online

Tomasello to be Inducted in Chamber Hall of Fame
Gaithersburg City Manager Tony Tomasello will be inducted into the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce (GGCC) Hall of Fame on Thursday, during the organization’s Annual Celebration Dinner & Awards Ceremony. The GGCC Executive Committee voted his induction unanimously. The event is 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hilton Washington DC North/Gaithersburg, 620 Perry Parkway, Gaithersburg. Jingle Jubilee is Saturday
The city will host its tree lighting ceremony with holiday music and a special visit from Santa at the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Olde Towne from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The event features performances by the Prichard Music Honors Brass, Kentlands Chorus, Gaithersburg High School Band, and 11-year-old singer Aishlinn Kivlighn. The Gaithersburg Student Union will be selling empanadas, churros and other treats. In the event of bad weather, the tree lighting only would be rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9. Kentlands Tree Lighting Ceremony
The 5th annual tree-lighting ceremony is set for 4 p.m. Sunday at Kentlands Market Square. Performers and festivities include: The Kentlands Community Chorus, Pritchard Music Academy, My Gym holiday bulb decorating, hot chocolate sales, holiday bags with Kentlands Downtown goodies from many local businesses, and a special visit from Old St. Nick on a fire truck. 18th Annual Winter Lights Festival
Gaithersburg’s perennial event continues through Dec. 31 at Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Road. The S’More Lights and Walk Under the Lights events that were canceled last week due to weather have been rescheduled for Monday, according to the event’s website.
