Police Warn of Utility Scam in Gaithersburg, 93-Year-Old Woman Robbed

Police say two men claiming to work for a water company stole items from the home of a 93-year-old woman in Gaithersburg.

A 93-year-old Gaithersburg woman was the victim of a utility service scam, according to a news release by Montgomery County police. On March 8, at approximately 2:43 p.m., officers responded to an address in the unit block of Highland Avenue for the report of a burglary, police said. The victim told police that she saw a male suspect on her front porch wearing a white hard hat and a black jacket with an unknown emblem on the front, police said. The suspect claimed to work for the water company and that there had been a gas leak that had affected the water in the area.  The suspect and victim then went to the basement of the residence to check the main valve. Silver Spring Man Arrested For Gaithersburg Burglaries

A 27-year-old Silver Spring man was arrested for burglaries at a Gaithersburg restaurant and office building, police said.

A 27-year-old Silver Spring man was arrested for burglaries at a Gaithersburg restaurant and office building, police said. Larry Harris Jr., of Banquo Terrace, was charged with second and fourth degree burglary and theft less than $1,000 in two burglaries on South Frederick Avenue. On Jan. 9, police from both Gaithersburg and Montgomery County responded to Burma Road Restaurant, located at 617 South Fredrick Avenue, at 10:42 p.m. for the report of a commercial burglar alarm, police said. An unknown suspect had entered the business through a window and an undisclosed amount of money was taken.  Police said Harris was observed fleeing from the direction of the restaurant and was subsequently charged with burglary-related offenses. Man Stole Two Rings From Zales in Lakeforest Mall

A suspect fled on foot after stealing two rings from Zales The Diamond Store, police said.

Police are looking for a man who fled on foot after stealing two rings from a Lakeforest Mall jeweler, Gaithersburg police officer Dan Lane said. Police responded to a theft at Zales The Diamond Store at 5:51 p.m., and it's unclear what direction the suspect was headed after fleeing the scene, Lane said. The suspect, a black male with stubble on his face, was last seen wearing a blue, green and white plaid shirt with jeans, Montgomery County police officer Britta Thomas said. Police: Gaithersburg Man Arrested After Robbing Girlfriend in Arlington

Spokesman: Suspect returned to Arlington apartment while police were on scene.

  Arlington County police say a 25-year-old Gaithersburg, Md., man robbed his girlfriend recently only to be arrested when he returned to her apartment shortly afterward. Daryl Villanueva has been charged with burglary and is being held without bond. Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, Villanueva kicked in his girlfriend's apartment door in the 1700 block of North Troy Street near the Courthouse neighborhood, according to information police released this week. He then assaulted her and stole an unidentified amount of cash from her purse, according to police. He also took makeup and a clutch wallet, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said. Report: Montgomery Umbrella Burglar Sentenced to 75 Years

Paul Jerome Holt, 34, was responsible for at least nine burglaries, and took over $80,000 worth of equipment, WUSA 9 reported.

A man responsible for breaking into businesses from Gaithersburg to Silver Spring and taking laptops, iPads and other electronics has been sentenced to 75 years in prison, WUSA 9 reported. Paul Jerome Holt, 34, was responsible for at least nine burglaries, and took over $80,000 worth of equipment, according to the report. Holt was caught on surveillance video during one of the burglaries using an umbrella to conceal his face. "From Urban Nation to Mars Symbioscience to a dentist office, Mr. Holt preyed upon unsuspecting people who thought their personal or business property to be safe," John J. McCarthy, State's Attorney for Montgomery County, said in a press release. Holt also "stole from a church and a funeral home in the same day," …

Montgomery County police released a crime summary for June 4 through June 12. The following incidents were reported in Gaithersburg: An aggravated assault occurred at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, between 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 and 1 a.m. Sunday, June 10. The victim was assaulted by the suspect who was armed with a weapon. An armed robbery occurred in the 400 block of Christopher Avenue on Sunday, June 10 shortly after 1 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.
