Residents asked to move cars from roads, remove ice and snow
A snow emergency has been issued for Gaithersburg effective 11 p.m. Tuesday, city officials announced. Cancellations will be posted on the city’s website. In order make street clearing more efficient, the removal of cars from snow emergency routes and cul-de-sacs has been made mandatory. Failure to comply could result in ticketing or towing, city officials said. Also, a city snow ordinance requires residents, property managers and businesses to clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 12 hours of the last snowfall or freeze. Gaithersburg Director of Economic Development Tom Lonergan said the commercial real estate vacancy percentage is down to 12.2 percent from a high of 19 percent in 2009.
Gaithersburg's commercial real estate vacancy rates reached a post-recession low in Q4 2012, the city's Director of Economic Development Tom Lonergan said at Monday's mayor and City Council meeting. Of the 163 class A and B office spaces housed within city limits — described by Lonergan as top and second tier facilities such as the Sodexo campus — 12.2 percent remain vacant, down from 19 percent at the peak of the recession. "We think that the city is continuing its appeal," Lonergan said. "We've made remarkable strides since we were at the depths of the recession in 2009." The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council announced Thursday morning the appointment of Deputy City Manager Tony Tomasello as City Manager, according to a news release. John Schlichting, a Gaithersburg resident since 1992, was named Director of Gaithersburg’s Planning and Code Administration.
The city of Gaithersburg has hired John Schlichting as Director of the Planning and Code Administration, according to a news release Monday morning. Schlichting, a resident of Kentlands in Gaithersburg since 1992, previously served on the Gaithersburg Planning Commission from 1995-2001 and was elected to the Gaithersburg city council in 2001, where he served until 2007.
