Costco is recalling two models of Champion portable generators.
Costco is recalling two models of Champion portable generators that were sold between December 2011 and July 2012. Approximately 8,600 units are being recalled. There have been 11 reports of fuel leaking from the generators, including eight reports of the generators catching fire and two reports of property damage, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Both models have a black frame with black and yellow control panels, a bar handle and two wheels. The generators can be returned to Costco for a full refund. Sometimes it takes looking back at the bad times to appreciate the good. Tomorrow, Oct. 2, is the 10-year anniversary of what became known as the DC sniper case -- a horrific chapter in local history that began in Montgomery County and became a national story. It's hard to describe to those who weren't here what it was like to fear a random bullet during routine trips to the grocery store or gas station, or to drive past playgrounds and parks empty of children, runners and bike riders. The perpetrators, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, were regulars at the YMCA of Silver Spring. A three car collision in the upper parking lot of Costco in Gaithersburg injured seven people and sent six to local medical facilities.
Update (3:30 p.m.): Seven adults were injured in a three-car collision in the upper parking lot of Costco in Gaithersburg Thursday afternoon, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Capt. Oscar Garcia said. Six of the adults, including at least one pedestrian, were sent to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Garcia said, adding one of the patient's injuries were considered serious. Fire and rescue officials were dispatched to Costco, located at 880 Russell Avenue, shortly after 1 p.m., Garcia said.
