New homes in Crown development could be required to be built blast-proof, The Gazette reported.
Homes in Gaithersburg's new Crown development may have to be built blast-proof due to two "potentially dangerous" water mains on the site near Decoverly Drive, The Gazette reported. Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney A. Katz described the 60-inch and 36-inch diameter mains as “defective and potentially dangerous” in a March 29 letter to Montgomery County Council President Nancy Navarro, according to the report, and asked for the pipes to be replaced. The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission told The Gazette there is a known issue about how those pipes fail but not all pipes like the ones under Crown are defective. The Cleveland-based Latin restaurant will come to Gaithersburg next year, The Washington Business Journal reports.
Another tenant is scheduled to be joining the Downtown Crown lineup, following quickly behind news of Georgetown Square Wine and Beer opening a location in the Gaithersburg development. Cleveland-based Paladar Latin Kitchen is scheduled to open on Fields Road in Gaithersburg in 2014, The Washington Business Journal reports. With all the hoopla about new dining coming to Gaithersburg's Crown development, one restaurant is slated to make its debut in April across the street in Washingtonian Center. The Bench — a kitchen, lounge and lakeside patio — will be part of the new Greatroom at the Gaithersburg Marriott, located at 9751 Washingtonian Blvd. The restaurant's menu has been developed over the past three months by Executive Chef Aaron Tootill, according to a news release. The process is one Tootill relishes. “It’s like an episode of Chopped. Eighty-four townhomes in the Crown West neighborhood — part of Gaithersburg's highly-anticipated Crown development — go on sale Saturday, Pulte Homes spokesperson Valerie Dolenga said. Pricing for the homes will be posted officially on Saturday, but Dolenga speculated they would be in the low $500,000 range. Located across from Rio-Washingtonian Center, the Crown community will feature more than 2,200 residential units and 260,000 square feet of retail space. The Crown West neighborhood has townhomes and single-family homes connected by pocket parks and a large city park, Dolenga said. Early plans for the 2.3 acre Crown Community and Recreation Center were shared with Gaithersburg's mayor, City Council and Planning Commission.
Developers for Gaithersburg's Crown development unveiled early plans for a 2.3 acre community and recreation center at Monday evening's mayor and City Council meeting. As part of a public hearing with the City Council and Planning Commission, SunBrook Partners Vice President Bobby Zeiller explained plans for a facility to include a club house, swimming pool, tennis courts and more. "This is an exciting project for us...it's one that will be shared by everyone who lives there and the surrounding community," Zeiller said. The plan proposes a main building between 4,800 and 7,500 square feet, with a maximum height of four stories, according to city documents.
