No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) spent several hours Sunday battling a 15-acre brush fire in Darnestown, according to MCFRS Assistant Chief Scott Graham. The fire, located at the 16700 block of Riffle Ford Road, has been contained and no injuries have been reported, Graham said. There were approximately 85 fire and rescue personnel at the scene as of 6 p.m. Sunday working to extinguish the blaze.

No students injured; cyclist in serious condition after collision at intersection of Darnestown Road and Berryville Road.
(UPDATED, 9:11 a.m.): For reasons still under police investigation, a cyclist traveling north on Berryville Road was hit by a Montgomery County school bus carrying students east on Darnestown Road, Montgomery County Police said in an update released late Wednesday night. Police said the name of the bicyclist—who remains in critical condition—would be released once the family was notified. The school bus driver, Michael Rinaldo, 53, of Germantown, was transported to an area hospital for a check-up, police said. The school bus was carrying 29 students from Poolesville High School. Caroline Queen started kayaking in a summer camp at the age of nine. At 12, she was racing competitively and by 20 she traveled with Team USA to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The Darnestown, MD-native describes herself as just being “at the right place at the right time.” Though Queen didn’t quite make it far enough to medal in London, she already has her eyes on the Summer 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. “I was really not sure going into these games, but having experienced it I can understand why athletes dedicate so much time in pursuit of the Olympic games,” Queen told Patch. “I think I would like to give it another go.” Queen will be heading to North Carolina soon to go on a vacation with her mother before starting …

Seeing a person taking a dog for a ride in a stroller is a peculiar sight. But as the owner pushes the approaching stroller closer enough for passers-by to see the "handicapped dog" sign, it all makes sense. Funny looks quickly turn to questions and kindness for Anthony Camargo and his dog, Samed, while taking walks through the Kentlands, The Gazette reported. Camargo, of Darnestown, told The Gazette he is stopped, on average, between 20 and 25 times during each walk with his dog, who is incapable of using her legs. The Security Exchange Commission charged Nicholas Howey and a former Las Vegas executive with illegal insider stock trading.
Nicholas Howey, a former Darnestown resident and CEO of Troika Entertainment, has agreed to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines to the Security Exchange Commission after the agency sued Howey and a Las Vegas gaming executive for alleged illegal insider stock trading. The information was first reported by VegasInc.com. In 2007, R. Brooke Dunn shared non-public information about his company, Shuffle Master Inc., with Howey, who then traded $237,000 in the company's securities to turn a profit, the SEC lawsuit states. Dunn was a senior vice president at Shuffle Master, a casino equipment manufacturer, and tipped off Howey when he heard the company would have to report low quarterly earnings, the SEC alleged. In the case of Paired Images Photography on Main Street in the Kentlands, two photographers named Jessica work together turning photographic images into timeless, unique, elegant art. The career paths of Jessica Notargiacomo and Jessica Latos converged in 2005 when Notargiacomo hired Latos to be her replacement as a wedding photographer. With their shared love of photography, they formed a fast friendship, and in 2009 the pair of Jessicas became business partners at Paired Images Photography. Gas stations around Montgomery County and Prince George's County are under constant watch, according to a report by NBC Washington.
Are you getting your money's worth at area gas stations? It's quite possible you don't, and surprisingly also possible you get more than you pay for, according to a report by NBC Washington. In Montgomery and Prince George's counties, NBC found 57 percent of stations had to be re-inspected for a variety of violations. These violations range from small technical issues like labeling and cracked glass on the computer display to cracked or worn hoses, nozzles and other mechanical parts. Twelve percent of those stations were cited for shortchanging customers, and the worst, according to the report, is located in Rockville. The pump was shorting customers approximately two gallons. Two questions about traffic issues on opposite ends of Darnestown Road (Rt. 28) arose in this week's edition of "Bumper to Bumper" in The Gazette. Potomac's Katherine Marshall asks The Gazette why the lights between Darnestown Road and Shady Grove Road's entrance to I-270 aren't timed better for the flow of traffic.
