With all the hoopla about new dining coming to Gaithersburg's Crown development, one restaurant is slated to make its debut in April across the street in Washingtonian Center. The Bench — a kitchen, lounge and lakeside patio — will be part of the new Greatroom at the Gaithersburg Marriott, located at 9751 Washingtonian Blvd. The restaurant's menu has been developed over the past three months by Executive Chef Aaron Tootill, according to a news release. The process is one Tootill relishes. “It’s like an episode of Chopped. We start with about 100 ideas, then narrow them to 20,” Tootill said in a statement. “It takes a lot of tweaking, including multiple tastings and input from corporate chefs.” While the full menu won't be unveiled until …

Montgomery County wasn't as well represented as last year in the list of essential dining for Washingtonians.
The fried potato tots at Bethesda's Food, Wine & Co made The Washington Post's list of "40 dishes Washingtonians shouldn't live without in 2013," released Thursday. Post editors taste tested dishes at restaurants throughout the DC region to develop the list, sifting through hundreds of reader nominations. Along with Food, Wine & Co's famous tots, the fried chicken with spiced salt and basil at Rockville's Jumbo Jumbo Cafe and the Mongolian beef with cumin at Joe's Noodle House, also in Rockvile, both made the list. The three were the only county restaurants represented this year, a departure from last year's list, in which significantly more Montgomery County restaurants were spotlighted—from Potomac and Gaithersburg to Silver Spring. Do…
