U.S. Rep. John Delaney on Saturday endorsed Douglas M. Duncan at the former Montgomery County Executive's first major campaign event in his bid to regain his old job. “Doug Duncan’s record speaks for itself and his values and expertise are well-known around our county,” Delaney (D-Dist. 6) of Potomac said in a statement released by Duncan’s campaign. “I know Doug has the long term vision to make our county a great place to work, live, start a business, raise a family, and he has a plan to make Montgomery work.” Duncan, a Democrat, served three terms as county executive from 1994 to 2006. The Silver Spring Councilwoman joins Councilmembers George Leventhal and Phil Andrews, former County Executive Doug Duncan as Democratic candidates, The Washington Examiner reported.
Montgomery County Councilwoman Valerie Ervin, of Silver Spring, announced plans to join an already crowded Democratic field for the 2014 county executive race, The Washington Examiner reported. Ervin joins County Councilmen George Leventhal (At Large) and Phil Andrews (Gaithersburg/Rockville), along with former County Executive Doug Duncan in the race, according to the report. Current County Executive Ike Leggett could still announce a run for re-election. Ervin, 55, said she'd had "serious discussions" with multiple community members, pollsters and media consultants about starting her campaign, according to the report. Duncan has told supporters he has decided to run for an unprecedented fourth term in Montgomery County's highest political office, marking his return to politics after a six year-hiatus. Douglas M. Duncan said Tuesday nothing has changed as he contemplates his political future. “I’m looking at all my options,” Duncan said in a telephone interview. His comments followed a NewsChannel 8 report that he is narrowing his focus on a run for state comptroller or a bid to return as Montgomery County Executive. “I’m not running for governor, not running for Congress,” Duncan, the county executive from 1995 through 2007, told Rockville Patch. A new Maryland transportation group joined its Virginia counterpart to identify the region's priorities.
The Corridor Cities Transitway, the Purple Line and bus rapid transit are the top transportation priorities for the Washington metropolitan region, according to results of a survey of transportation experts released Thursday. But experts surveyed list only one of those priorities—bus rapid transit—in the top three on a list of “game-changing” transportation investments that would have the greatest impact on the region in the next 20 years.
