UPDATE: Police: A Traffic Stop on I-270 Ended in Suicide

State police: The man shot himself after being stopped for not wearing a seatbelt.

Update, 6:20 p.m., Jan. 20: Maryland State Police have identified the driver of the Ford Focus who police said fatally shot himself during a traffic stop on Interstate 270 on Friday afternoon as a 27-year-old Gaithersburg man. The man's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, police said in a news release Sunday. Update, 9:45 p.m., Jan. 18: A man fatally shot himself after being stopped by a state trooper near the Montrose Road exit of Interstate 270 on Friday afternoon, Maryland State Police said. Police Seek Man For Questioning In Whetstone Apartment Slaying

Montgomery County police released a composite sketch Monday of a man they say could be connected to a Dec. 3 fatal stabbing in Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County police are seeking help from the public in identifying a person of interest in the Dec. 3, 2012, fatal stabbing of 45-year-old Cesar Smith in Gaithersburg's Whetstone apartment complex. Police released a composite image Monday afternoon of a man who was "seen in the vicinity of the crime." Detectives said they need to identify him and speak with him regarding the incident. Investigators say the crime was not random and that the victim and suspects may have had some association, but they cannot confirm that relationship. Detectives are asking anyone who may recognize the subject to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. A man robbed the Food Express convenience store early Tuesday, police said.

  Surveillance photos show a man Montgomery County police said is wanted for an armed robbery of a Rockville convenience store Tuesday. The man entered the Food Express convenience store at 16254 Frederick Road in Rockville at 1:14 a.m., approached the clerk and announced a robbery while displaying a black semi-automatic handgun, police said in a news release. The clerk complied with the suspect’s demand, giving him cash from the register, police said. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Student Arrested With a Gun at Magruder High School

A schools spokesman said a 17-year-old had been suspended from the Rockville school.

A 17-year-old boy arrested this morning at Col. Zadok Magruder High School  was found to be carrying an unloaded handgun, Montgomery County police said in a news release. The teenager was charged as an adult with possession of a weapon on school property and other weapon-related charges, police said. The student is a senior at Magruder High, but was not supposed to be at school on Thursday, Dana Tofig, a county schools spokesman, said in an email. “He was suspended, but I cannot say why,” Tofig wrote. A school resource officer saw the suspended student on school grounds at 7:53 a.m. and told him leave, the release said. Police: Victim in Gaithersburg Home Invasion Stabbed to Death

Montgomery County police say the man killed early Monday in Gaithersburg suffered a fatal stab wound.

The man killed early Monday in a Gaithersburg apartment complex along Whetstone Drive suffered a fatal stab wound, Montgomery County police said Tuesday afternoon. Police said 45-year-old Cesar Smith, of Gaithersburg, was found with blunt force trauma on his body and the stab wound. The stabbing was ruled the cause of death. Police were originally dispatched to the scene for the sound of gunshots at 12:06 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival, Smith was found dead. Police are investigating Smith's death as a homicide and said they believe that the victim may have had some association with his killer.  Additional Coverage

Gaithersburg's Cesar Smith was killed early Monday morning at an apartment complex on Whetstone Drive.

Detectives are working to confirm a more specific address for Smith, police said, and the case is being investigated as a homicide.
