On The Agenda: Fiscal Year 2014 Strategic Plan Adoption and More

The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will vote on the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2014 Strategic Plan at Monday evening's meeting. The mayor and City Council reviewed the draft Strategic Plan at its Feb. 25, Planning Retreat and provided input which was incorporated into the final document. In addition, the city will introduce an ordinance to amend Chapter 16 of the city code entitled entitled “Peddlers, Hawkers and Solicitors." On The Agenda: Election Code, Electronic Sign Policy Discussions

The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The Gaithersburg City Council will hold two policy discussions during Monday evening's 7:30 meeting at City Hall. An ordinance to amend the city's election code intends to change the definition of a Political Committee and to add a definition of a Slate. It also will possibly include an additional campaign finance report due 14 days after the election. Four options for the ordinance have been submitted for consideration: In addition to potential election code changes, the City Council will also hear a policy discussion regarding electronic signage in Gaithersburg. Gaithersburg officials will meet at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall to discuss the fiscal year 2014 budget plan.

Gaithersburg officials will meet for the final mandatory budget work session Monday evening at City Hall. The council will hold a budget work session Tuesday evening if necessary. Budgets will be reviewed for the following departments during the meeting: There will also be a review of the city's Capital Improvements Plan. On The Agenda: Budget Public Hearing, Update From District 17 Delegation

The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Gaithersburg residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinion on the fiscal year 2014 budget and proposed property tax increase at Monday evening's mayor and City Council meeting. City Manager Tony Tomasello's propsed budget is the largest in Gaithersburg history. It does not propose an increase in Gaithersburg's property tax rate, but would be exceeding the constant tax rate set by the state. Joining Mayor Sidney Katz and the Council will be members of the District 17 delegation, who are attending the meeting to give a brief presentation on highlights of the 2013 legislative session. Sen. On The Agenda: Introduction of New Gaithersburg Library Branch Manager and More

The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council meet for a work session at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

The city of Gaithersburg will officially introduce the new manager of its long-awaited new library at Monday evening's Mayor and City Council meeting. Kay Bowman, who began her career with Montgomery County Public Library in 1986 as a part-time children's Librarian, will take over the new Gaithersburg branch and provide the Mayor and Council with the following updates: The Gaithersburg Library is currently about 65 percent completed and is expected to open in September or October. On the County Agenda: $13.8M Ride On Bus Funding Request, State Legislative Update and More

The Montgomery County Council meets at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Rockville.

The Montgomery County Council will introduce an amendment to the 2013-18 Capital Improvements Program budget seeking $13.895 million for the purchase of 32 new buses for Ride On. Recommended by County Executive Ike Leggett, the project will "fund the replacement of 32 Champion buses which have had fire safety problems." The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will hear a presentation on the Region Forward Plan and city performance during Monday evening's worksession. According to city documents: The Region Forward Plan is based upon shared goals across the National Capital Region. The goal categories include Land Use, Transportation, Environmental, Climate and Energy, Economic, Housing, Health and Human Services, Education, and Public Safety and encourage leaders to think regionally when acting locally. The Region Forward Plan offers specific targets to measure the progress in achieving the Plan’s goals. The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing regarding the future of the Kentlands Firehouse during Tuesday night's council meeting. The firehouse is under consideration for disposition, and "the hearing will give the public an opportunity to offer input in regard to disposition of the property and also to comment on whether the parcel is needed for any future public purposes," Gaithersburg City Manager Tony Tomasello wrote when announcing the hearing. On the County Agenda: Smoking Ban Public Hearing, Firearm Resolution Vote and More

The Montgomery County Council meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Rockville.

The Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on its proposal to ban smoking on any property owned or leased by county government. The proposed ban, introduced in November by Councilwoman Nancy M. Floreen, would apply to the land around recreation centers and county buildings, for example, but not bus shelters and sidewalks, The Washington Examiner reported. On The Agenda: Hydraulic Fracturing Presentation

The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will meet for a work session at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

The Gaithersburg mayor and City Council will host Drew Cobbs of the Maryland Petroleum Council and Jorge Aguilar of Food & Water Watch for a presentation on hydraulic fracturing at Monday evening's work session. Hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as “fracking,” is a method of releasing substances, such as petroleum, from between layers of rock, according to city documents. Cobbs and Aguilar will discuss the technique at the request of Mayor Sidney A. Katz and the City Council.

Well i hope it is just for information. Fracking is a very dirty process that contaminates ground water, streams, watersheds, etc.... A great documentary called "Gaslands" is out that looks into fracking, the pollution and shows the horrors that come from raping the Earth.   more ›
