The hearts of D.C. are broken and RGIII's knee might be too. But the playoff rolls on even if the Redskins don't. While Sunday's football schedule is shaping up to be a dream day for fans of the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens, it's also a financial boon for the state. The Redskins and Ravens games — each hosting Sunday's NFL wild card round playoffs — are expected to net approximately $2.5 million in taxes for Maryland, state comptroller Peter Franchot told The Washington Post . Could week 1 have possibly gone any better for the two NFL teams separated by merely an hour on I-95? The Washington Redskins were road underdogs featuring a rookie, albeit highly-touted rookie, quarterback playing in a hostile environment against a former Super Bowl MVP quarterback. The Baltimore Ravens faced adversity of their own, missing the NFL's 2011 Defensive MVP, Terrell Suggs, and coping with the recent death of former owner Art Modell. I certainly had no expectation of that Sunday performance by the Redskins and really had considered the Saints a "lock" to win. It's a bit too early to lose perspective but the potential is exciting. more ›
Their season may be shot, but are you a fair weather fan?
After coming out of the gate with a strong preseason, the Redskins' performance has gone steadily downhill this year, culminating with a loss last week to the Miami Dolphins, who had only won one game this season before defeating Washington. The Redskins have been plagued with injuries and an unstable quarterback position this year, losing their last five games and consequently sinking to last place in the NFC East. This week, 3-6 Washington plays division rival Dallas. The Skins/Cowboys rivalry goes back decades and is usually one of the most talked about games of the season. But this week there seems to be little excitement for Sunday's match up. Have we given up on the Redskins? Take our poll and let us know.

How much pain can one city take?
Last night saw the Redskins' perfect season evaporate when quarterback Rex Grossman lost control of the football with less than two minutes to play. It was a tough loss to Dallas, 16-18, made even tougher by the build-up of hopes going into the game. The Skins were 2-0, looking strong, and talking big. But now a lot of fans are shaking their heads, saying this is just like any other football season in Washington: long, sad, and difficult to watch. What do you think? Have the Redskins fumbled their season already? Or is this just a speed-bump on the way to the playoffs?
