MoCo Food Trucks Park It, Online

A collection of food trucks in Montgomery County organized a collective website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com.

The grown-up lunch line is just as likely to be outside, on the corner of a busy intersection as it is inside of a strip mall restaurant. (And it's been that way for years now.) And while residents and workers in places lousy with food trucks may enjoy the variety and speed of mobile food offerings, keeping up with what's available and when can be a challenge.  A new website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com, organizes about a dozen food trucks within the county and includes a comprehensive calendar of when some of the trucks will be in which area.  Here's how the organizers describe the site: "This site will tell you the three "Ws" of food trucks: Where we are, Who we are and What we serve. Our trucks operate throughout Montgomery County, MD from…

Report: Village Pharmacist Inc. Closes For Good

The pharmacy of 40 years was the last business of its era in present-day Montgomery Village, The Gazette reported.

A Montgomery Village staple has closed its doors for good. Village Pharmacist Inc., which has filled prescriptions in the Village since 1973, closed quietly last week, The Gazette reported. The future of the Montgomery Village Professional Center on Montgomery Village Avenue, where the pharmacy is located, is uncertain and contributed to the decision to close, according to the report. “One of the determining factors for us is, we could not get a straight answer as to what is happening with the Professional Center,” Village Pharmacist owner Richard Matheny told The Gazette. Montgomery Village Foundation president Bob Hydorn told The Gazette the pharmacy was the last business of its era to exist in present-day Montgomery Village. Read the …

It looks like some people just do not know the facts. They prefer to make up their own facts. BECO is giving long-term leases in the Office Center. They have told tenants they are not closing the center. They are looking at options for new tenants, but certainly have no plans to tear it down. Several tenants, Doctors, have moved closer to the hospital areas of the region. The Pharmacy looks like …   more ›

How Important are Social Security and Medicare to Maryland's Economy?

A new report says a 3 percent cut in Social Security would take more than $300 million from the state economy.

How much do Social Security and Medicare programs affect Maryland businesses? More than you might think, according to a new report by the Main Street Alliance, a national network of small business coalitions. The report, called “Business is (Baby) Booming,” looked at how Social Security and Medicare can drive economic activity and strengthen the retirement security of small business owners across the country. The group’s efforts focused on small businesses—defined as a business with 100 or fewer employees. The report also cited a U.S. Small Business Administration study that found business owners are “significantly…
