North Potomac Man Charged With Impersonating Police Officer

Travis Merrill Anderson assaulted woman he pulled over in fake traffic stop, police said.

A North Potomac man was charged Thursday with assault and impersonating a police officer, Gaithersburg Police said. Travis Merrill Anderson, 39, of the 12000 block of Gravehurst Lane was operating a white police interceptor Crown Victoria with tinted windows and equipped with a spotlight and emergency equipment, police said. Anderson allegedly conducted a traffic stop on Oct. 13 in the area of Darnestown and Quince Orchard roads, in which Anderson identified himself as a Montgomery County Police officer, police said. He sexually assaulted the female driver and held her against her will, according to police. When the victim asked for identification, Anderson got into his vehicle and left the scene, police said.
