Forum Addresses Fatal Pedestrian Crashes in Germantown, Gaithersburg

Advocacy group plans to host forum at Germantown Library on Jan. 26

Deadly crashes involving pedestrians in Germantown and Gaithersburg will be addressed at a public forum at Germantown Library later this month. The Action Committee for Transit (ACT) is hosting the event on Jan. 26, the transit advocacy group announced Wednesday. Barbara McCann, founder of the National Complete Streets Coalition, is the guest speaker. The forum was spurred by deadly collisions involving pedestrians upcounty. Germantown high school student Christina Morris-Ward was struck and killed by a car while crossing Germantown Road on her way to Seneca Valley High School on Oct. 31, 2012. Police Identify Gaithersburg Woman Killed in Kentlands Car Crash

Montgomery County police have identified 69-year-old Elizabeth Colvin Colton, of the 200 block of Hart Road in Gaithersburg, as the woman killed in a two-car collision Sunday evening in the Kentlands area.

UPDATED: One Dead In Kentlands Area Car Crash

A woman was killed Sunday evening in a car crash on Great Seneca Highway at Lakelands Drive in the Kentlands area of Gaithersburg, according to Montgomery County police.

Update: (11:28 a.m.): Montgomery County police have identified 69-year-old Elizabeth Colvin Colton, of the 200 block of Hart Road in Gaithersburg, as the woman killed in a two-car collision Sunday evening in the Kentlands area. Colton was a passenger in a 1999 black Lexus LS 400 driven by 77-year-old Seymour Baden, of the same address, police said. Baden remains in critical condition. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Baden was traveling north on Great Seneca Highway and attempted to make a left turn onto Lakelands Drive when his vehicle was struck by a 2003 Toyota Highlander traveling south on Great Seneca. It is terrible that there have been a few accidents in the recent past, but can we tap the brakes on requesting more monitoring and speed cameras? All the monitoring and speed cameras in the world would not seem to have prevented any of these accidents. Police Investigating Fatal Collision in Derwood

Police: Ralph Warren, Jr., 83, of Gaithersburg, died Thursday after the Prius he was riding in collided with a RAV4.

An 83-year-old Gaithersburg man died from injuries suffered in a two-car collision at Shady Grove Road and Crabbs Branch Way in Derwood on Thursday, county police said in a news release. Ralph Warren, Jr., of the 8300 block of Lando Court in Gaithersburg, was a passenger in a 2003 Toyota Prius driven by his wife, Marilyn Warren, 81, of the same address, police said. According to a preliminary police investigation, the Prius, which had been traveling southbound on Shady Grove Road and attempting to turn left onto eastbound Crabbs Branch Way, collided in the intersection with a 2007 Toyota RAV4 driven by Kar Yang Yu, 55, of the 7500 block of Weatherby Drive in Rockville.  Yu was uninjured in the collision, which police and fire crews …
