Hang Gets Life Without Parole For Gaithersburg Murder Of 12-Year-Old Stepdaughter

A Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge sentenced David Hang for the May 2011 killing of 12-year-old Jessica Nguyen.

A Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge sentenced David Hang to life in prison without parole for the May 2011 killing of Hang's 12-year-old stepdaughter in Gaithersburg, The Washington Post reported. Hang was found guilty in August, when prosecutors said Hang killed the child with a sword — stabbing her more than 40 times — to get back at Nguyen's family, who contested his divorce of the girl's mother, Khen Kim Vu, in 2010. Hang's defense attorneys said they plan to appeal his conviction, according to the report.  Read the full story on The Washington Post. Report: Jury Finds Hang Guilty in Stabbing Death of 12-Year-Old Gaithersburg Girl

Montgomery County jury finds David Rich Hang guilty of murdering his estranged stepdaughter in her Gaithersburg home, according to news reports.

After deliberating nearly seven hours, a Montgomery County jury Wednesday found David Rich Hang guilty of murdering his 12-year-old estranged stepdaughter by stabbing her more than 40 times, The Gazette reported. Hang, 43, of Hyattsville, was accused of stabbing to death Jessica Nguyen, a then-Gaithersburg Middle School student, at her Gaithersburg home in May 2011. According to The Gazette, prosecutors said Hang killed the child with a sword to get back at Nguyen's family, which contested his divorce of the girl's mother, Khen Kim Vu, in 2010 — a marriage Montgomery County prosecutors described as "an immigration sham type of marriage." The Nguyen family protest prevented Hang from putting his new wife on his work insurance, costing him …

David Rich Hang, 43, was arrested and charged with the murder of Jessica Nguyen, a Gaithersburg Middle School student, on Oct. 18, 2011, nearly five months after the girl was found stabbed to death in her basement. Hang's Lawyer Brian D. Shefferman, a Montgomery County public defender, told the jury his client was nowhere near the home when Nguyen was killed on May 31, 2011. He called the incident an “unbelievable tragedy” and denied any accusation that Hang had anything to do with the crime, The Gazette reported. The 12-year-old honor roll student had been stabbed and cut more than 40 …

Stepfather Stabbed Girl 'Over 40 Times,' Prosecutor Says

David Rich Hang ordered held without bond on first-degree murder charge. He had been paid to marry Jessica Nguyen's mother in an 'immigration sham,' officials say.

The Gaithersburg man charged with killing his stepdaughter stabbed and cut her more than 40 times and had married her mother in “an immigration sham type of marriage,” Montgomery County prosecutors said today at his bond review. David Rich Hang, 42, of the 17100 block of Queen Victoria Ct., was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 12-year-old Jessica Nguyen. Hang’s prolonged divorce with Nguyen’s mother helped fuel his anger in the months leading up to the girl’s May 31 slaying, prosecutors said. “He felt the family was not living up to their responsibility,” Assistant State’s Attorney Stephen Chaikin said during Hang’s bond review in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville. Hang lived in at…

Manger: "It makes no sense why she was killed"

Police say they have not determined a motive for why David R. Hang allegedly killed his 12-year-old stepdaughter, Jessica Nguyen, in May.

County Police chief Thomas Manger today revealed more details about the four-month investigation that led to the arrest of a Gaithersburg man for the murder of his 12-year-old stepdaughter in May. On Tuesday, police arrested David Rich Hang, 42, of the 17100 block of Queen Victoria Court in Gaithersburg and charged him with first-degree murder for the slaying of Jessica Nguyen on May 31. DNA evidence found on the sheath of a small sword or knife left at the scene linked Hang to the scene, police said. Manger said police believe the knife or sword from the sheath was the murder weapon, but they haven't located it. Hang, a Ride-On bus driver, has been working regularly since the time of the murder, police said. But on the afternoon of the …

Two Months Later, Child's Murder Remains Unsolved

Police are still waiting on evidence, and concern is growing in the community.

On a warm summer night two months ago, 12-year-old Jessica Nguyen was found brutally stabbed to death. Today, police have still not caught her killer. On the evening of May 31, Nguyen, a sixth-grader at Gaithersburg Middle School, had only been home from class for a few hours when her body was found in the basement of her family's home in the 700 block of Raven Avenue. The gruesome discovery launched an intense police investigation that included interviews with family and friends, sweeps of the nearby woods with metal detectors, and the collection of forensic evidence. But days passed, and County police made no arrests. Nguyen's family held a funeral at Our Lady of Vietnam Catholic Church in Silver Spring. Then they buried their daughter …

"They don't want to live there anymore," a family friend said.

As police continue to investigate the stabbing death of 12-year-old Jessica Nguyen, the girl's family has had enough. They are moving out of the house on Raven Avenue where the murder occurred, ABC7 reports. Patch independently confirmed the report with a member of Nguyen's Silver Spring church. “They don't want to live here anymore,” Lihn Le, a family friend, told ABC7. She was at the Nguyen family’s house Tuesday to help them pack, ABC7 reported. Wednesday, police confirmed that Nguyen was stabbed to death — before they had only released that she sustained trauma to her upper body. Few details have come to light about the grisly murder, including whether the police have directed their investigation toward any suspects. Nguyen, a sixth-…
