Gaithersburg Library Re-Opens Today

Ceremony, ribbon cutting celebrates library's $23-million makeover.

Today, book lovers and local leaders will be celebrating the re-opening of Gaithersburg Library.

A ribbon cutting and ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in the second-floor meeting room of the bigger, better library space, at 18330 Montgomery Village Ave.

Preceded by light refreshments, the ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the library’s first floor. Gaithersburg High School Pep Band will also perform. There will also be special programs presented by the Friends of the Library, Gaithersburg Chapter throughout the day.

Gaithersburg has been without a full-service library since 2010.

The $23 million renovation nearly doubled the library’s size, expanded Wi-Fi and computer access and offered more space for children and young adult services. . The library will also house a satellite office for the Charles W. Gilchrist Center for Cultural Diversity, which serves immigrants.

Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday–Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
