- , Oct. 9: Amid horse-drawn wagon rides and pumpkin painting, festival-goers can enjoy authentic Bavarian food and beer and lively performances. New to the festival this year will be an outdoor wine tasting and a children’s puppet show, held indoors at Kentlands Mansion. Kids will also enjoy a full day of pony rides, moon bounce, face painting, art projects, and many other activities.
- , Friday, Oct. 7, Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9: Find the perfect homecoming dress? My Best Friend's Closet has stocked up with hundreds of dresses. All styles, colors and sizes available. Hours are 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
- , Friday, Oct. 7: Eighth annual Fall Festival of Indian Arts starts in DC with opening night performances by Daniel Singh and the Dakshina Dance Company with special guest artist Leela Samson with a Bharata Natyam performance. Samson is among India's most dynamic and technically brilliant dancers.
- , Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8: Your nightmare has begun. Ages 9 and older are invited to Nightmare ScreamPlex at the MD Soccerplex. Three attractions, one location. Nightmares begin on Sept. 30 through Nov. 5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Other dates include Oct. 20, 26 & 27. Cost: $15.

The show, which offers a warm-hearted study of the unlikely relationship between an crotchety Southern lady and a soft-spoken black man, runs Oct. 7 through Oct. 23. This show is suitable for ages 12 and older.
