Oil, Digital and Acrylic Works at Arts Barn Gallery

The City of Gaithersburg presents the “Oil, Digital and Acrylic Art” of Ellen Kalin, Kenneth W. Minton and Roya Gharavi at the Arts Barn Gallery December 2, 2011 through January 8, 2012.  The gallery, open to anyone with a love for unique and inspirational art, is located at 311 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg. Viewing hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. To introduce the collections, an artists’ opening reception will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Ellen Kalin is a Maryland artist specializing in abstract painting, primarily acrylic on canvas. She has harnessed her early training in painting and design to create an original process that borrows from batik and other artistic traditions. Kalin received her undergraduate degree in Geography at Colgate University and her Master of Arts in Publications Design from the University of Baltimore. A member of several local artist groups, she has exhibited in Maryland and Washington, D.C., and does commission work for private collectors, interior designers and corporate clients. Using acrylic, ink and collage, Kalin creates textural atmospheres inspired by the beauty, harmony and dissonance of the cosmos, as well as by the emotions that shape experience.

Kenneth Minton is a retired physician-scientist who has been creating visual art for most of his life.  He works in a wide variety of media to meet the differing demands of each project.  Minton’s current exhibition features artist proofs from two different series.  The first series, “Music,” contains over 50 images with an artistic intent is to render a visual association with music or with another source of sound.  The second collection, “Window,” includes seven images from a series of 25, providing an abstract interpretation of what might be seen looking out of a multi-panel window at various times of day and year.  Nighttime, foggy and bright, illuminating images reflect the emotional state of the viewer looking out through a favorite window.

Roya Gharavi’s passion for art began at a very young age. After experimenting with crayons, she made a natural transition to paints. By the time Gharavi reached age 12, she had lived in the U.K., New Zealand and the United States. Her culturally diverse upbringing influenced her heavily, and gave her an appreciation for art and music. Influences include the Persian Poems of Hafez and music of Mogwai. Gharavi has worked in many mediums, but the one of choice is oils. She began to develop her own style in the years following college when the Weissman Gallery in London permanently displayed her work. She has also exhibited at the Bridge and Tunnel Gallery in Newcastle, England.

Please note that artwork is for sale and all images are copyrighted by the artist.  .
