Shuttle Buses Replace Trains on Red Line Segment This Weekend

Metro will open at 5 a.m. on Sunday for the Nike Women Half Marathon.

Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains this weekend between the NoMa-Gallaudet and Takoma stations, according to a Metro news statement.

The service changes will allow for bridge work at New York Avenue Station, and for tie replacement, insulator renewal and communication system upgrades.

Trains will operate between Glenmont and Takoma and between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet every 10 minutes during daytime hours and at regular weekend intervals at other times.

Free shuttle buses will operate on two routes:

  • Express buses will run non-stop between Takoma and NoMa-Gallaudet stations. Metro recommends adding about 20 minutes to travel time if using an express bus.
  • Local buses will operate between Takoma and No-Ma Gallaudet, with intermediate stops at Fort Totten, Brookland and Rhode Island Avenue stations. Metro recommends adding about 30 minutes to travel time if using a local bus.

"To allow for shuttle bus connections, the last train from Glenmont to Takoma will depart 38 minutes earlier than normal on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The train will leave Glenmont at 1:59 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 10:59 p.m. on Sunday," Metro added.

On Sunday, April 28, Metro will open at 5 a.m. to accommodate those traveling to the Nike Women Half Marathon, the start line for which is accessible from the Metro Center station.
