MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY OF SERVICE - Volunteer

Nearly 3,000 volunteers throughout Montgomery County will start their year  by volunteering on MLK Day.  Each year, the Montgomery County Volunteer Center hosts a large service event, with over 60 projects to benefit local nonprofits, and a volunteer fair, with 50 nonprofit agencies.  This provides an opportunity for volunteers to celebrate MLK Day and learn how to can make a difference throughout the year through local nonprofits.

Sponsors make this day of service possible.  Our main need is for supplies for the projects.  For example, each year, Meals on Wheels creates Snow Day Boxes at the main volunteer site at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.  This provides crucial meals for when bad weather days hit, such that regular meal deliveries to clients become impossible.  The snow day boxes are filled with specific shelf stable food items that are low-fat, low-salt, low-sugar, and easy to open.  An important need is being met by this project and we need your help to make it happen.
