Car Fire Slows Morning Commute on I-270 at Route 28 Exit

A car fire in the southbound lanes of I-270 slowed traffic in the Gaithersburg and Rockville areas Wednesday morning.

A car fire in the southbound lanes of I-270 slowed commuters Wednesday morning as they were passing through Gaithersburg and Rockville, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson said.

Around 8:30 a.m., MCFRS received a report of a car fire ahead of the Route 28 exit in the highway's southbound lanes, MCFRS spokesperson Beth Anne Nesselt said.

A member of the county sheriff's office traveling on I-270 got to the vehicle before fire rescue units arrived. Police and rescuers cleared the scene around 9:15 a.m., Nesselt said.

No injuries were reported, and traffic was affected briefly, Nesselt said.
