Contractor Causes Gas Leak

Part of W. Deer Park Road was closed down.

A construction crew caused a gas leak when they struck a utility line while digging on W. Deer Park Road this afternoon.

Officials said the leak was reported shortly after 4 p.m. Several blocks of W. Deer Park, including the block in front of Summit Hall Elemenaty School, were closed for about an hour as firefighters and Washington Gas crews worked to repair the line.

Ruben Rodriguez, a spokesman for Washington Gas, confirmed that it was a third party contractor who struck the line.
