Pedestrian Struck By CSX Train

The victim, a Gaithersburg resident, had been drinking alcohol and was playing a game of trying to dodge the train, Montgomery County Police told The Washington Post.

A pedestrian was struck by a CSX train near the intersection of Nebel Street and Randolph Road in North Bethesda on Monday night, a county fire and rescue spokesman said.

Police said the male victim was expected to survive serious injuries.

The 22-year-old victim was with a 21-year-old woman at the time of the incident. The woman, also from Gaithersburg, was also drinking alcohol before playing the game. 

She made it in front of the train without being struck, The Washington Post reported.

Assistant Chief Scott Graham tweeted the following at 9:29 p.m. on Monday:

"@MCFirePIO MCFRS Rockville CXS Nebel St/Randolph Rd. Pedestrian struck by train. Priority 1 to local trauma ctr. No further from Fire/Rescue. Thx Scott"

Traffic was stopped near the scene of the incident, to which emergency crews reported at 9:16 p.m., WUSA9 reported on its Web site. There were no major traffic problems, WUSA9 reported during its 11 p.m. broadcast.
