UPDATE: Man Who Reported Burglary Charged in Killing Early Friday In Gaithersburg

Police: A hatchet was used to kill the victim.

A 20-year-old man whom police say called them to report a home burglary has been charged with homicide in the death of another man whose body was found in a wooded area nearby.

The suspect, Claude Alexander Allen, told police that someone tried breaking into his residence and that he killed the intruder, Montgomery County police said.

Police identified the victim as Michael Phillip Harvey, 25, of an unconfirmed address.

Harvey’s body was located behind the residence, according to police spokesperson Angela Cruz.

Officers responded to the call of a burglary in the 7200 block of Cliff Pine Drive at approximately 12:09 a.m., police said. Police say there was no actual burglary and that the caller and the victim knew each other.

The extent of their relationship was unknown. Police say a hatchet was used in the crime.
