UPDATE: Person In Custody After Bus Stabbing At Shady Grove Metro Station

Police: Suspect was 'yelling and acting erratically' before stabbing.

Update: 1:10 p.m., March 14:

A 24-year-old male was charged with second-degree assault with a weapon after police said he stabbed a man while boarding a Ride On bus Wednesday evening at the Shady Grove Metro station, a county police spokesperson said.

Mustapha Bamba, of an unconfirmed address, used a pocket knife to stab a 21-year-old man in the leg following an argument, Officer Rebecca Innocenti said.

Police were called to the Metro station at 5:41 p.m. and the victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries, she said.

Witnesses told police Bamba and victim, among others, were gathered at a bus stop when Bamba started yelling and acting erratically, Innocenti said. Bamba approached the victim and accused him of talking about Bamba before "punching [the victim] in the face and putting him in a body lock."

Montgomery County police have a person in custody after a stabbing on a bus at the Shady Grove Metro station Wednesday evening, a county police spokesperson said.

The circumstances that led to the stabbing are unclear, and police are unsure if it occurred on a Ride On bus or Metrobus, Officer Bob Ladany told Patch. 

Ladany could not provide any information regarding the victim. "We're still getting other details," he said.
