Bongino To Challenge Delaney For 6th District In 2014

The Severna Park native will host a meet and greet Tuesday evening in Gaithersburg.

After failing in his 2012 bid to win the seat of incumbent Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin (D), Severna Park resident Dan Bongino has his eyes on Maryland's 6th Congressional District, according to numerous media reports.

Bongino was expected to formally announce his plans to run for the Republican nomination for Maryland's 2014 6th district congressional race, WJLA reported

The former Secret Service agent made a similar announcement earlier this month in Rockville during a Young Maryland Republicans convention.

The seat is currently held by Rep. John Delaney, of Potomac. Delaney defeated 20-year incumbent Rep. Roscoe Bartlett in the newly realigned 6th district.

The congressional hopeful scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon in Frederick, MD at the American Legion to announce his campaign, The Washington Post reported.

He will also host a meet and greet Tuesday evening at Smokey Glen Farm in Gaithersburg.

The 6th Congressional District includes Gaithersburg and most of northern Montgomery County.

Despite living 40 miles from the 6th District, Bongino said he spent 3-4 days per week campaigning in the region against Cardin and independent Rob Sobhani, according to MarylandReporter.com.

“We spent a lot of time getting our message out to those folks,” Bongino told MarylandReporter.com. “The folks like us,” Bongino said. “I like the people.”
