Gaithersburg's Christopher Yue was selected as a semifinalist in a statewide essay contest.

Gaithersburg's Christopher Yue, a fourth grade student at , was selected as a semifinalist in the Maryland Municipal League's "If I were Mayor..." essay contest.

Yue was honored by Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz and the City Council at Monday evening's council meeting and presented him with a certificate for his accomplishment after reading his speech.

The theme of contest was "Meeting the Challenge." In his essay, Yue said he would focus on three things as mayor to help the Gaithersburg community:

  1. Force citizens to stop polluting
  2. Make recreation parks bigger
  3. Help prevent crime

Yue was joined by his parents, younger brother and his fourth grade teacher, Wendy Stewart.
