Report: Teacher Evaluation Process Won't Change This Year

Like a last-minute extension on a big homework project, Montgomery County Public Schools is getting a one-year reprieve before it has to comply with a state law requiring teacher evaluations using standard test scores, The Gazette reported. 

The new evaluation system would make test scores 20 percent of the teacher's "grade."

The deadline for all districts in Maryland to submit a plan to the Maryland State Department of Education was Friday, The Gazette reported, but MCPS has until next year as MSDE continues to negotiate with Montgomery and Frederick county schools over their evaluation plans.

Teachers' unions and school officials hope to create an evaluation that does not include student test scores.
