Get caught up with the food scene in Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods with Patch’s foodie news column, 1 Meat, 3 Sides. This week, Roof takes center plate.

One meat:

Bethesda's new rooftop restaurant and bar Roof—which opened for dinner seven nights a week on Dec. 28—begins serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays on Jan. 25 and 26. Lunch service begins on Wednesday, Jan. 29., owner Alan Pohoryles told Patch.

Roof (at 7940 Norfolk Ave., Bethesda)—which serves foods from local growers, farmers, dairies and watermen—is Bethesda’s first full-service rooftop restaurant and bar, according to its website. The restaurant operates on the second and third floors of the building, and the third floor has the large roof deck.

Current Roof specials include "Happy Hour" from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Soon, Roof will add a "Kids Eat Free" night, a speciality cocktail night and a half-price-on-a-select-bottle-of-wine night, Pohoryles added.

Three sides:

Rockville bar and eatery Quench—which has been open for only 19 months—already is on chef No. 4, and "this time we were determined to get the right one," owner Michael Holstein told Bethesda Magazine.

Meanwhile, Matt Hill, chef de cuisine at Range, is leaving his friend Bryan Voltaggio's meat-centric Chevy Chase restaurant, which has been open for about a year, The Washington Post reported

Bethesda Now reported that Bethesda's City Lights of China Restaurant opened on Jan. 14 at 4953 Bethesda Ave., not far from its former location at 4820 Bethesda Ave. Read the full story on Bethesda Now's website.

With her new business Baking with Betsy, Olney resident and Paris-trained pastry chef Betsy Palmer aims "to take the mystery out of making pie crusts and other tricky baked goods" by traveling to clients' home kitchens to teach baking essentials, Bethesda Magazine reported
